Administration Broaches Executive Pay With Caution

Announcing the appointment of a so-called compensation czar, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says the Obama administration is not interested in capping pay for chief executives but will attempt to “rein in” compensation practices by linking salaries to long-term performance rather than short-term gains. That will include stricter oversight of the seven firms that received bailout funds.
