Immigrants are holding fast to their belief that America remains the land of opportunity, according to a new Public Agenda study. Majorities of immigrants report they become comfortable in the United States quickly, even as ties to their birth country have become stronger since we last surveyed immigrants in 2002.

Concerns about discrimination have remained stable, but the economy is taking a toll on immigrants' satisfaction in the United States, and increasing numbers say practical concerns are important reasons to pursue citizenship. The report also includes special examinations of the attitudes of Hispanic and Muslim immigrants.

This report was prepared for the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
